Modem Nightmares
I’ve finally got the internet back again, now using Telkomsel Flash. So far, I’m not very impressed.
I went to their office in Denpasar to activate the HALO chip for the modem. That was “OK”. Except - I bought my own modem, a Huawei E220 which is the same one that Telkomsel Flash uses, but mine is not locked to Telkomsel’s service.
The fun started when we tried the new chip in my modem and the so-called “automatic” installation didn’t work properly. My husband has a theory that because these kinds of modems are seen by the computer’s operating system as a new drive, (like a CD/DVD drive), what often happens is the drivers for the device get installed but not the main communication software (panel?).
He thinks it might be more efficient to hold down the SHIFT key before plugging in the USB modem, so it doesn’t start automatically. Then go to the files on the modem’s drive through Windows Explorer and install the software (and drivers) from there.
My laptop uses Windows Vista Business. When the Telkomsel staff couldn’t get my modem working properly, they swapped it for one of theirs. Guess what? They couldn’t get theirs to work either! They took my laptop out the back for the technicians to figure out the “”. It took them a very long time and when they came back, everything was working properly.
The trouble now is when I got home with my modem, (not Telkomsel’s test one), the software is different on my husband’s computers. I probably can’t even use the laptop with my modem…not sure, yet…about to check soon.
Anybody else out there having problems with this?

wah, saya juga ga ngerti ama yang begituan mba…maklum katrok sih. tapi saya juga pingin punya koneksi dirumah untuk laptop tapi belum ada uang buat beli modem hehehe

Kasus kayak gitu banyak yang ngalamin. Harus pilih2 modem. mana yang sekiranya compatible dengan vista. Paling wenak ya XP

mengenai modem.. kaya’nya saya belum berkesempatan untuk bisa se-mobile itu (pakai modem di laptop), masih nebeng koneksi warnet (itu pun tarik kabel sendiri, wakkakaa)

Neng, kalo Aki boleh nyaranin mah, masalah yang neng alamin tulis di koran aja kaya Kompas dsb. Telkomsel paling alergi tuh kalo ada surat komplain dari pembaca ! Atau waktu di Grapari nya Telkomsel ngambeg saja abis2-an, mereka akan ngeladenin abis2-an juga he he he !

Pengen nyobain t-flash, tapi masih pilih-pilih yang mo dipake modem. Entah nati mau pake hape yang digunakan sebagai modem atau beneran beli modem untuk gsm…
