Musical Memories
Ever noticed how hearing a song or piece of music you haven’t heard for a long time can conjure up all kinds of memories from the past? Music is powerful like that.
The sense of smell is similar. Your brain kicks in and suddenly all kinds of previous associations that were stored in your head come back. (Even ones you thought you’d forgotten completely about.)
One whiff of a kretek as you get off a plane can instantly transport you to an emotional moment from the past. A few bars of music sitting in a taxi can do the same. Of course, it’s not always good. Some things we like to forget. Some times, our brains won’t let us…
Tears, fears, girlfriends. boyfriends, husbands and wives, good times, bad times, dreams and nightmares are all there…just waiting to be triggered again.
