I’ve often asked other people if they think I’m fat. They usually say no, but their answer still doesn’t make me very happy.
Some of my clothing doesn’t fit any more. I tried all kinds of dieting programs, including slimming pills. I was a vegetarian for many years. In the end, I just felt weak and unhealthy and gave up.
My weight was up-and-down like a yo-yo. After many years, I can finally manage my body. I realized that always buying pills, ‘miracle cures’, even traditional ‘jamu’, etc, was not a good idea. It affected my body badly and was also just a waste of money. No sooner do you stop some of these things and you invariably start putting on weight again. Obviously something wrong there, right?
Women’s magazines are full of suggestions. Some are even sensible and don’t burn holes in your pockets. Here are a few…
* Eat the right food. Fruit, vegetables, meats, all in moderation. Avoid too much fat, oils, sugar, alcohol and tobacco. If you eat chicken, remember to throw the skin away (trim all fatty meats).
* Exercise regularly, even just a little.
* Try to get a good night’s sleep.
* Avoid or reduce your stress levels.
* If you want to slim, do it for yourself not for your ‘relationship’.
* Stop giving yourself negative messages like “I wish”, “if only”, “I should”. Try telling yourself “I can”, “I will”.
* Never give up.
* Remember that no one is ‘perfect’, and stop expecting too much from yourself.
And you’ll be a healthier person.
